The good life.....

Well we had a pretty good weekend. We didn't do a whole lot. Saturday I got off work about 1:00 came home and played with the kids for a while then Faron came over, and Bryan and him decided they wanted to go hunting. Well they weren't gone but a couple of hours. Then we hung out with my parents that night. Sunday I got off work about 12ish and mom and dad were watching the kids because Bryan and Faron went hunting again and I had to work. Which was really nice of them. Yesterday afternoon was nice we decided to take the kids on a ride. Which in our terms is Bryan rides the dirt bike and I have the kids on the four wheeler. Well this is our time to go out on our land and check out whatever nature has to offer for the day. This day we had some exciting things happen. We found a dead deer, and Aubrey was so interested in it that we had to get away from it as soon as possible because she wanted to see it up close. Well let me explain something. My daughter is fascinated with bones. She has picked up bones or shells from different animals for probably 2 years now. I know this sounds so gross, but most of the bones are from animals that have been dead for years. We have a place that has 2 cow skeletons from years ago and she loves looking at the bones. So when we saw the deer she says okay well how long will it be before I can come back and get the bones. I said not for a long time. Let me explain something else. This deer was fresh- like killed by coyotes or something the night before. So it was disgusting. Anyways we went on with our ride. Found an area where we could get to another creek that we found. I know it sounds weird when I say Found like we didn't know it was there, but we don't what all is on our land. We bought this place in about April last year and have worked on the house all of last year. This land is so raw. There are trees everywhere, a huge pond a couple of creeks that we know of, but it is so thick with trees and brush that this is the only time of the year you can go out and actually get to see what really is there. We found out last spring when we bought the place that we have Morel mushrooms. Well I had never heard of them, but let me tell you. These are one of the greatest finds yet. They only come out in the spring and you have to go out and hunt them. This takes some practice because you don't know what in the world you are looking for. They are a delicacy. I have been informed. well we found some, and I fried them. They are wonderful. Anyways I keep getting off the subject. We spent 2 hours out with the kids, and had a great time. Can't wait for summer. Swimming and fishing in the pond. Taking Aubrey to our favorite place on the creek to make mud pies or whatever she wants to do. I wouldn't raise my kids any other way. This is the way I was raised and I have so many memories of living in the country and doing nothing, but playing all day long outside and being filthy by the end of the day. I am ready for the summer when everything is green and all the wild flowers come out and we have all kinds of critters around the house. Well I will enjoy the winter for now, but I wish it would either get cold and snow or stay warm. Oklahoma weather!

I am so jealous of "the good life". That is exactly how I grew up too and I wouldn't change it for the world. I can only hope out future holds something like that in store. Maybe I can get a teaching job in Marlow and we can live "the good life" together.
